‘Tis the Season Book Tag

tis the season
Can I just mention how proud I am of this graphic? Took me forever, but I’m totally satisfied with the end product. 😀

Hello everyone! It’s almost time for Christmas, and I’m so excited! I love the Christmas season, even though I don’t celebrate it in a religious sense. But Christmas in New York City is an experience I look forward to every year. The lights, the merriness, the snow, holiday music, Starbucks’ red cups. I love seeing how people decorate their houses, how people decorate their shop windows. It’s such a lovely time, and so I thought I’d share my appreciation for the holiday season by doing this tag!

Now, I first came into contact with this tag last year when I was trying to decide if I wanted to set up a blog or not. And ever since then, I knew that if I made a blog, I’d do this tag. I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but that’s okay. I’m still super excited to do this.

So, with that unnecessarily long introduction, let’s jump into the tag!

Do you have a favorite winter read?

I’m not one for re-reads. The only books I have ever re-read are the Harry Potter books, and I don’t usually pick them up in any kind of pattern: just when I feel like it. But during the winter, I do tend to lean heavily towards the high fantasy genre. I like dark, twisted reads. I like reading about anti-heroes and maniacal villains. I like reading about cozy taverns and rainy horse rides. High fantasy and winter go hand-in-hand for me.

Find a book with blue on the cover!

heart of betrayal

This isn’t a Christmasy cover, but it’s a pretty good book in a decent series. Also, the cover is very wintery even though I feel bad for the heroine. Standing in that wind in that dress would not be pleasant…

Find a book you’d use as the star on top of a Christmas tree

This is actually one of my favorite book covers of all-time. I don’t think a book can get any more beautiful than this one. I get Patronus-ish vibes, but I’m totally okay with it.

Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation

There might be something wrong with me, but my pick is Winterfell from the A Song of Ice and Fire series. On one condition though: I’d get to be a high lady or something. I love the cold, and to spend my winter in a massive castle seems like a dream. Okay, there’s definitely something wrong with me.

Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation!

Can I just take Chaol Westfall away from all the bad people who hate him? That guy can do with a vacation. He left his family for the sake of the kingdom, he found out his king’s evil, he almost watched his best friend die and his girlfriend tried to kill him and then left him and came back with a different guy. *wraps Chaol up in blankets and hisses at the haters*

Name one book on your wish list this year!

A Darker Shade final for Irene

I’ve been meaning to get this, but it’s kind of expensive and I don’t know when I’ll actually get to it. So I’ve been putting it off, but I still want it.

Favourite holiday drink, treat, & movie?

I don’t think I have a favorite of either. But I recently discovered Starbucks’ seasonal creme brûlée latte, which is the most delicious thing I’ve ever tried. So I suppose that would be my drink. As for treat, I really like cheesecake during the holiday season. Any kind of cheesecake will do.

For movie, I’ll have to go with either Home Alone (any of them) or Love Actually. They’re both very Christmasy and wonderful.

Anyways, happy holidays everyone! <3

  1. That graphic is amazeballs, Aimal!!! You SHOULD be super proud of it – you have totally outdone yourself! Home Alone is my favourite Christmas movie and probably my favourite movie of all time! It’s so, so good and I will never get sick of it! Thanks for the tag 🙂

  2. I’ve been tagged! Noooo!! I wanna live free! *tries to pull tag off* I don’t wanna be sold for the low price of $9.99! *crumples in a ball of despair*

Just kidding! I love tags! Thank so very much for tagging me! *is going to need time to catch up on tags now*

OH MY GOSH! Those movies are both on my Christmas To-Watch list this season. Definitely epic movies for this time of year! ^.^

WINTERFELL! *trumpet sounds* I’m game! Take me with you! *loves the cold weather and dire wolves and awesome northern men* *cough* Wait- what? >.> <.<

Oo! What a fancy star you have on your tree. *is jealous*

A GAME OF THRONES! *is reading A Clash of Kings at the moment* Hoping to finish it by the new year *glances at all 900 pages still left to read* Yeah… we'll work on that one. -.-

P.s. Yes, I read your post up instead of down 'cuz I'm a rebel like that. :p Toodles!

  3. I love the Raven King cover, partly why I started reading the Raven Boys. My copy of Dream Thieves literally just came through at the library and I’m soooo excited, I can’t breathe! Lol!
Thank you for the tag!! I love holiday tags!!! I love Christmas. I love the season, all the colors and the spirit as so cute and adorable to me. I wish I could see it in New York though one day. #vacationgoals

  4. I refused to buy A Darker Shade of Magic, because it was so expensive and even the Kindle book was a little pricey! I was so happy when Book Outlet ended up having some copies on there. I would keep an eye out on Book Outlet in case they get some more! It only cost me $7.99 on there versus almost $20 everywhere else! I love the Home Alone movies, but the second one (Lost in New York) is my favorite out of them all! 😀

    • I saw your haul where you said you got it off Book Outlet for so cheap. But it was already sold-out when I checked. *cries*

And yess. That’s my favorite too! Because New York + Christmas = all things good. XD

      • I am dying to see New York at Christmas. I am dying to see New York anytime really lol. I’ve never been! But I think Christmas would be the best time!

  5. Great post! I love Game of Thrones <3 And I've just bought the Demon King and I cannot wait to read it!!! I've heard so many good things. Not gonna lie, I wouldn't want to spend winter in Winterfell (or any time of year for that matter!) Although I would like a pet direwolf (if I can't get a pet dragon, that is). Ahh take Chaol away- he's got on my last nerve- guess I'm one of the haters lol! Oh my goodness- you will love A Darker Shade of Magic- it's phenomenal! Good choice! And Home Alone is definitely my favourite Christmas movie!! 😀

    • CAN I JUST SAY that my first three-word reply was because all my phone app showed me of your comment was “I love Game of Thrones.” Stupid app. -.-

Now that I’ve read your entire comment: the Seven Realms series is greaaaattt. Personally, the third was my favorite. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I’m going to totally pretend you didn’t say that about Chaol *puts hands over ears and says lalalala because I’m juvenile* 😛

I might ask my dad to get ADSOM for me. I want it so bad >.<

  6. Hahaha if you take Winterfell out of all of the turmoil it would be beautiful! I got A Darker Shade of Magic from my TBTB Santa I’m so excited about it!! I wanted it solely for the cover. Although the story sounds awesome too! New York at Christmas would be so cool! My boyfriend’s brother is getting his PhD at NYU, we’re going to have to visit him at some point…

  7. Nice graphics! I’m so jealous that you can put together images like this! Have you done a post on the programs you use or your process?

The Raven King is a beautiful cover! I haven’t read the series yet, but I put it on my TBR as soon as I saw the gorgeous covers. Did you like the story as much as the artwork?

    • Thank you very much! I actually don’t make the images myself. I use vectors off of a website called FreePik. I usually take several different vectors, cut and stitch them into one graphic. For example, the graphic for this post is actually comprised of five different vectors I downloaded from the website. I also tweak around with the colors etc. It’s not that impressive. I wish I actually knew how to draw them. xD
As for the program, I use GIMP 2.0. It’s free, and it has everything Photoshop has. I haven’t made a post, because I don’t think I know enough to make one. 😛
The Raven Cycle is brilliant. Very whimsical and atmospheric. The characterization is very lovely, and the relationships are realistic. I hope you enjoy it once you get to it! x
