Top 5 Wednesday | Disappointing Eye Candy

eye candy

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey. You basically get a new topic every Wednesday, and you list your Top 5 books related to that topic. Head over to the Goodreads group, and add your name to the list of Wednesday-ers if you’re interested in participating!

Today’s topic is “Top Five Disappointing Eye Candy.” I’m sometimes an impulse buyer, and how what constitutes impulse buying? Books with pretty covers. And books that are pretty on the outside aren’t always that great on the inside. This has happened to me a fair share of times, so this list is going to tell you about some disappointing pretty reads.

P.S. Sorry this is kind of late. :3

5. A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray | Full Review

atp

This book is perhaps the meh-iest of the meh books I’ve read. Which is a shame, because its cover is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I thought the characters were flat, the direction the story was going in was predictable and the writing was average!

4. The Here and Now by Ann Brashares | Full Review

the here and now

Very poorly researched. Apparently, an entire population is wiped out in the future because of the dengue virus. I’m from a region where we have a shit ton of mosquitoes, and dengue virus is prevalent. But with proper medication (which is very easy to come across in this age), it’s very treatable. So excuse me if I don’t buy that a scientifically advanced society in the 2070s can’t get rid of dengue fever. Nope.

3. Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley | Full Review

magonia

This book was weird. I don’t like birds, so it was just too strange for me.

2. From a Distant Star by Karen McQuestion | Full Review

fads

Such a pretty cover, but I thought there was too much there for too little. There was so much happening that it was a little all over the place.

1. The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle | Full Review

infinite

LOOK HOW GORGEOUS. But this book was a steaming pile of shit. I’m sorry; I don’t like being this mean towards books, but I do not understand why this was written and published.

Alrighty guys, that’s it for this week’s T5W! Let me know some of your favorite covers where the actual content didn’t leave you satisfied. Leave a comment down below! Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day. <3

  • Great choices! I’m sad to hear you were disappointed with A Thousand Pieces of You. that cover is just incredible! I read Magonia (and had NO idea it was self-published until, just now, so, thank you for that!) and, as beautiful as the outside looked, the inside didn’t hold its promises, for me. And hm, The Here and Now, I definitely agree with you. Such a disappointment!

    • HAHAHA, thanks for bringing that to my attention. I used my previous post as a template for this, so I forgot to erase the Magonia text and put in text that actually goes with Magonia. 😛 It’s NOT self-published; it was actually published by Harper Collins. I sincerely thank you for your comment, haha. 🙂 x

      • Hahahaha, okay, wow, actually for two seconds I thought, “self-published, this is weird”, haha, but then I thought I’d trust you on that…Well I guess I did right to mention it haha :p

  • Omgg those covers are incredible ahahah disappointing indeed 😂 Great post !! I love this 🙂 -Trang

  • All these books have such pretty covers! O____O

It’s a shame you didn’t like any of them. I really wanted to pick up A Thousand Pieces of You though… maybe not?

  • Your blog is GORGEOUS I’m kinda dying!!
I’m sad to hear that A Thousand Pieces of You wasn’t good, it’s been sitting on my shelf for a year…at least it’s great to photograph! 🙂
