Top 5 Wednesday | Self-Published Books I Want to Read

self published

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey. You basically get a new topic every Wednesday, and you list your Top 5 books related to that topic. Head over to the Goodreads group, and add your name to the list of Wednesday-ers if you’re interested in participating!

Today’s topic is “Top Five Self-Published Books,” and I’m ashamed because I haven’t read any self-published books. Or I haven’t read any that I am aware are self-published. So, I thought I’d do some searching on Goodreads and the like so I could add some self-published books to my TBR. Here are my top self-published books I want to read!

5. Still Alice by Lisa Genova

I haven’t seen the movie for this book, and I wasn’t aware this was self-published until I stumbled upon an article that spotlighted some movie adaptations that started off as self-published books. I took an Abnormal Psychology class last year, and my professor couldn’t stop raving about this book/movie. Ever since then, this has me intrigued and I’m looking forward to getting to it when I can!

4. Easy by Tammara Webber

One of my favorite booktubers (Raeleen from padfootandprongs07) recently read this, and she couldn’t stop raving about it, even though she doesn’t usually read romance-y books. I knew this existed before she started talking about it, but she’s the person who has pushed me to add this to my TBR. Apparently, this book deals with the issue of sexual assault but does it in a sensitive, appropriate way. Also, this book contains a ‘healthy relationship’ and God knows we need more of those in young adult / new adult.

3. Beautiful Disaster by Jaime Maguire

This is a fairly popular book, and I had no clue it was self-published! See? Learning new things everyday. I don’t know anything about this one, but I do know I want to read it.

2. The Martian by Andy Weir

Like Still Alice, this started off as a self-published book which is freaking insane, because it’s now a major motion picture starring Matt freaking Damon. Believe in yourselves, people. Your work might just be adapted into a movie with an A-list celebrity at the forefront. Also, I cannot believe I still haven’t read this. What is wrong with me?!

1. Angelfall by Susan Ee

Again, I didn’t know this was self-published! But apparently it is. This series gets rave reviews from everyone, and I own the first book, so hopefully I’ll get around to reading this soon!

Alrighty guys, that’s it for this week’s T5W! Let me know some of your favorite self-published books, and some self-published books you want to get to in the future. Leave a comment down below! Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day. <3

  1. I didn’t know these were self-published! I loved both The Martian and Angelfall for completely different reasons; definitely recommended! And I have Still Alice on my TBR as well.

  2. I’m sure all the comments are going to be similar… read The Martian!! It’s brilliant!
And yes, it gives me great hope that Andy Weir started the story on his blog forever ago, then self-published and now the movie version is up for all sort of awards… amazing and very well-deserved because it’s a great book 🙂
