Top Ten Tuesday | Anticipated Releases for The Rest of the Year

anticipated releases
Hello everyone! It’s that time of the week again! Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Basically, you get a different bookish topic every Tuesday, and you comprise a list of ten (or however many you’re able to list) relating to said topic.

Today’s topic is ‘Top Ten Anticipated Releases from the Second half of 2016. I’m not sure I’ll be able to come up with ten, just because a lot of my anticipated releases either have no release date yet, so it’s unsure if the release is in 2016, (Cormoran Strike series), or got pushed back (I’m looking at you, Samantha Shannon.) But I will try. Some really amazing books seem to be releasing later this year, including one book that may just get me to camp out outside the Strand Bookstore in midnight lines in Manhattan. That’s one hell of a feat, and I don’t say that lightly.

tcc1. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne | Releases on July 31st

Was this a surprise? It shouldn’t have been. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out in 2007, and it was the end of my childhood as I knew it. Sure, we had the movies to keep it breathing for a little while longer, but the last book marked the end of an era in my mind. I often found myself reminiscing, years later, about waiting for a new Harry Potter book, turning through crisp new pages to discover new things about the world, new adventures that the trio went on, new lessons to learn and things to experience. And then it ended, and I never, in my life, expected to get a new story. Created by the woman herself. This book isn’t a novel, yes- it’s a play, and do I wish it was a novel? Yes, but I’m so, so, so excited for the play too. I don’t think I’ll be ready when July 31st rolls around and I finally get this book in my hands. I haven’t anticipated a release this hard since 2007 when Deathly Hallows was coming out…

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff | Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor | A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2) by Sabaa Tahir

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab | Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo | Heartless by Marissa Meyer

The Winds of Winter (A Song of Ice and Fire #6) by George R. R. Martin | The Beauty of Darkness (Kiss of Deception #3) by Mary E. Pearson | Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Do you know what the saddest thing in the world is? That last year, for the same exact post, The Winds of Winter was one of my most anticipated releases. But it did not come out. It didn’t come out in Spring either. And I’m STILL not sure if it’s final that it’s coming out this year, but I’m hoping that if I say it enough times, it’ll be out before the end of 2016. This is the pain of reading the Game of Thrones books. I would not wish the painstaking agony of waiting on my worst enemy.

That’s it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! Let me know in the comments below what some of YOUR most anticipated releases are? Are you looking forward to any of the books I mentioned; have you already reads ARCs? Let me know in the comments below, and as always, happy reading!

Join the List

  • I can’t wait for Heartless by Marissa Meyer! One of my highly anticipated books of the rest of 2016 is Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas. The cover is so amazing!
    -Melia

    • I really, really hated both Queen of Shadows and ACOMAF by Sarah J. Maas, so I don’t believe I’ll be continuing on with the series, unfortunately. 🙁

      • I totally agree on the ACOMAF count but Queen of Shadows! I loved that book! But ACOMAF just wasn’t that good… So goodbye that series!

  • Such a great list! I almost put Nevernight on mine as well, but then there were just so many sequels that I wanted. We have Heartless and Gemina in common thouhg.

    • Nevernight very recently got on my radar. I’m so excited that I got approved for the ARC just today. :3 I can’t wait to give it a go!

  • Nova

All of these. I don’t take part in the meme, but if I did, all of these would be worthy contenders. Such a good list!

  • Ohh great list! I’m so impatient for Heartless as well, it sounds like such a great book 😀

  • 🙂 I enjoyed reading your list. I have the new hp on mine too and Gemina sounds great!

  • Cooked Kingdom can’t come soon enough. I’m dying here! Great list for this week 🙂

  • It’s definitely frustrating when release dates change multiple times, especially when you’re really looking forward to reading the book! That happened to me with Stiletto by Daniel O’Malley, which FINALLY comes out today after years of pushing the date farther and farther back. Hopefully the Winds of Winter comes out soon!

  • Heartless and Crooked Kingdom ❤️ I didn’t put up Winds of Winter for that reason. I don’t want to anticipate it for it only to be pushed back to 2018 or something 😒

    • NO, ANNEMIEKE, DON’T SAY THAT. Not 2018- I’m not ready to get my hands on the book AFTER I graduate from college *shudders*

  • Ah The Winds of Winter. I’ve started to lose hope there :/ I’ve put a twist to my post this week. Check it out here http://www.curious-daisy.com/top-ten-tuesday/ten-book-releases-im-looking-forward-to/ Happy reading!!

  • Yes to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child! I have Strange the Dreamer on my list as well. It sounds so good! I can’t wait for A Torch Against the Night. I haven’t read Illuminae yet, but I am sure once I do I will be dying to get my hands on Gemina. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Lunar Chronicles, but I still want to check out Marissa’s new book.

    • Illuminae was very good. I didn’t expect to like it, tbh, because I’m not big on sci-fi, but Illuminae was extremely fast-paced and imaginative. I hope you enjoy it!

  • Maureen Eichner

I’m reallllly looking forward to This Savage Song too!

  • Think Winds of Winter will actually come out any time soon? LOL

  • I am only on the second Game of Thrones book so it’s exciting that there is another one coming out! https://incessantbookworm.wordpress.com/2016/06/14/top-ten-tuesday-2/

    • I mean, I HOPE there’s another one coming out soon. 😛 Hope you’re enjoying the read. The third book is by far the best.

  • I have completely given up on the wait for Winds of Winter. I’ve still not managed to finish the books as it is but there’s only so much waiting I can do. Basically I’m going by the TV show and my own imagination at the moment and it’s proving to be highly entertaining haha.

    • My God. I wish I had waited until the entire series had been released to start reading, because the waiting is devastating. But now that I HAVE read them all, I’ve learned to watch the show and read the books as separate entities. 😀 The show is ALMOST just as good, if not less complex because of the limited run-time!

  • LMAO I can’t believe you put The Winds of Winter there. AS IF! I still haven’t read the third, I’m not sure if I even want to continue with these books. The other ones on the list are pretty much no-brainers, OF COURSE I’m dying to read these omg

    • TBH, I can’t believe I put it there either. T_T You should definitely read the third one, though. It’s the best book in the series- one of my favorites of all-time. 😀

  • This is a great list and we definitely have a few in common. Very much looking forward to the Laini Taylor.
    Lynn 😀

  • For your sake, and everyone else that I know who is disappointed that there’s no new ASOIAF despite there being new rad as hell box sets, I hope Winds of Winter releases at the end of this year or at best early next.

    Cheers,
    Joey via. thoughts and afterthoughts.

  • So many great choices! I also have This Savage Song and A Torch Against the Night on my TTT… and I can’t believe I forgot about Nevernight until seeing it on other people’s lists!

    Here’s my TTT. 🙂

  • The Cursed Child and Heartless. <3

  • The Cursed Child and Heartless were both on my list this week too!
