Top Ten Tuesday | Favorite Books of '16 So Far

Hello everyone! It’s that time of the week again! Top Ten Tuesday is a book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Basically, you get a different bookish topic every Tuesday, and you comprise a list of ten (or however many you’re able to list) relating to said topic.

Today’s topic is ‘Top Ten Releases of 2016. I haven’t read much this year (I’ve only completed 25 books at the moment), and I’ve only read a couple of books released in 2016. It didn’t make sense to do a post for that, so I thought I’d just tell you some of the best books I’ve read so far. I’ve only read two five-star books, including A Game of Thrones, which was a re-read, so I’m not going to count that in this post. This post will not have ten items, simply because I haven’t read ten four or five-star reads. :3

In order of awesomeness

A Gathering of Shadows Final 1. A Gathering of Shadows (A Darker Shade of Magic #2) by V. E. Schwab

A Gathering of Shadows is, by far, my favorite book I’ve read this year. I know I’ve spoken a lot about it ever since I read it last month, but I can’t help it. I have so many feels. Kell and Rhy’s bromance is everything good in this world. Delilah Bard is fucking amazing, and the writing just makes my heart sing with joy. Kell’s intense desire to belong makes me want to weep like a baby, AND I DID. Nothing extremely devastating happened in this book, but the CHARACTERIZATION MADE ME CRY, GUYS. That is fucking incredible.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab | The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski | Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

With Malice by Eileen Cook | Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch | Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I’ve recently realized that I’ve become extremely picky with my ratings. The books listed above are the ONLY books I have given a rating of above 3.5 stars this entire year. 7. SEVEN.

That’s it for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday! Let me know in the comments below what some of YOUR favorite releases of 2016 are! Have you read any of the ones I mentioned? Let me know in the comments below, and as always, happy reading!

  1. YESSSSS Lady Midnight! My thoughts were: <3<3<3<3…..<3<3! I can't wait for book 2 (Oh, how long we are forced to wait..) I need to read Illuminae and A Darker Shade of Magic. They both sound great, and have been on a lot of people's favourites lists. Happy Reading 😀

  2. A Gathering of Shadows has been my favourite read of the year as well. You can’t get me to shut up about the book haha. I’ve been meaning to read The Winner’s Trilogy for so long now but the angst and emotional trauma has me nervous. I just need to rip the bandage off with that series. 😛

  3. Illuminae is SO GOOD! I love the unique format and the super suspenseful plot. I can’t wait for the next one to be released!

  4. Omg I LOVE your list!! And I actually think 2016 hasn’t been the best for really stunning books? Like I feel like I’ve read a lot of good ones, but none have really blown me away so mucH?! Except for my precious Raven King. <33 And several 2015 titles *nods* I LOVED ILLUMINAE. And the Winner's Kiss and Lady Midnight and omg everything by VE Schwab is beyond amazing. <33 I love it so much!! AHHHH. Here’s my TTT!

  5. With Malice, Lady Midnight and A Darker Shade of Magic are on my list as well! WOHOOO! I somehow thought that Illuminae was released last year ahahah totally missed opportunity to use it I guess.

  6. I have A Gathering of Shadows on my list as well. I just bought the first book in the Winners trilogy and Illuminae this month so I have some good books to look forward to, clearly, 😉

  7. Great books and a few I’ve yet to read! I’m moving soon so I really can’t be buying new books right now but I don’t think I have enough self control to stop…. Oh the dilemma!!

Penny for your thoughts?
