Hey everyone! It’s that time of the month again, and I literally cannot believe that it’s the start of July already. 2013 was like, yesterday. What?!
I had a reasonable reading month. I was doing very well with reading up until I hopped on a plane and flew to Asia. I haven’t finished a single book since I’ve been on vacation, and my plan to read three books on the airplane failed miserably. I think I read 20 pages at best. Even so, the cumulative wrap-up is good enough. Let’s jump into it!
Psst, click on the book title to go to my full review!
~ Days of Blood and Starlight (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2) by Laini Taylor:
Really enjoyed this second installment. I liked it more than the first one, and I can’t wait to dive into the final book in this trilogy. I gave this book four stars!
~ Lexicon by Max Barry:
I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. It was fast-paced, creative and action-packed. Great place to start getting into sci-fi. I gave this book four stars!
~ P.S. I Still Love You (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before #2) by Jenny Han:
I was super disappointed with this one. I thought some of the decisions that Han took were unnecessary and undermined the characters a little bit. I gave this book two stars.
~ A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird #1) by Claudia Gray:
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I hoped to, but it wasn’t bad either. I gave this book three stars.
~ Every Last Word (ARC) by Tamara Ireland Stone:
This book was very addictive, and it offered interesting insight into a mental illness I had never read in fiction before. I gave this book 3.75 stars.
~ Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead:
I liked this one better than the first one. The plot was action-packed and fast-paced, and I really enjoyed the narration. I gave this book 3.5 stars.
~ The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass Prequel Novellas) by Sarah J. Maas:
These novellas offered brilliant insight into Celaena’s past and her character. They were a lot of fun to read, and I definitely recommend them to people who enjoyed Throne of Glass. I gave this book four stars.
~ The Wrath and the Dawn (The Wrath and the Dawn #1) by Renée Ahdieh:
I absolutely adored this book. The story, the writing, the world, the characters- everything was on point. I gave this book 4.5 stars.
~ This One Summer by Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki:
This was a pleasant surprise. It was profound, poignant and touched upon some serious issues. I gave this book four stars.
~ The Graveyard Book Vol. 1 by P. Craig Russell and Neil Gaiman:
This was okay. I think I would have liked it better if I had read the actual novel first. I gave this book 3.5 stars.
~ Winger (Winger #1) by Andrew Smith:
I really enjoyed this. Even with the hype, I thought it was a great book with well-constructed characters and funny yet insightful narration. I gave this book four stars.
~ Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover:
I think the hype brought this book down a little bit for me. I thought it was okay- nothing special, but it did have its moments. I gave this book three stars.
Books in Progress: 2
~ The Exiled Queen (Seven Realms #2) by Cinda Williams Chima:
I’m only a few pages in, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to finish this in early July.
~ The Little Friend by Donna Tartt:
This is one hunk of a book. Small text and over 600 pages! I’m halfway through, but I had to put it down because I didn’t want to put myself in a slump. I don’t have it with me on vacation, so I’ll probably get to it when I’m back home in August.
Total Books Completed: 12
Total Books Read This Year: 74
Mumford & Sons (this album in particular) has been my new obsession. Noteworthy tracks include Believe, Hot Gates, Monster, Snake Eyes and Wilder Mind.
Although I’ve known about Kodaline for a while now, I didn’t pay much attention to them until very recently. I love this album. Noteworthy tracks include Honest, Autopilot, Lost, and Coming Alive.
TV Show Spotlight:
My Mad Fat Diary is back for Series 3, and I really wasn’t expecting this last season to happen. This is a severely underhyped show- everyone needs to check it out asap!
Alrighty, guys, that’s it for this month’s wrap-up! Hope you enjoyed this post, and I look forward to what July has in store for me. Happy reading. <3
